“Where Were You” Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day? Were you in the yard with your wife and childrenOr working on some stage in L.A.?Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smokeRisin’ against that blue sky?Did you shout out in anger, in fear for your neighborOr did you just sit down and cry?Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved onesAnd pray for the ones who don’t know?Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubbleAnd sob for the ones left below?Did you burst out in pride for the red, white and blueAnd the heroes who died just doin’ what they do?Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answerAnd look at yourself and what really matters?I’m just a singer of simple songsI’m not a real political manI watch CNN but I’m not sure I can tell you the difference in Iraq and IranBut I know Jesus and I talk to GodAnd I remember this from when I was youngFaith, hope and love are some good things He gave usAnd the greatest is loveWhere were you when the world stopped turning on that September day? Were you teaching a class full of innocent childrenOr driving down some cold interstate?Did you feel guilty ‘cause you’re a survivorIn a crowded room did you feel alone?Did you call up your mother and tell her you loved her?Did you dust off that Bible at home?Did you open your eyes, hope it never happenedClose your eyes and not go to sleep?Did you notice the sunset the first time in agesOr speak to some stranger on the street?Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrowOr go out and buy you a gun?Did you turn off that violent old movie you’re watchin’And turn on “I Love Lucy” reruns?Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangersDid you stand in line and give your own blood?Did you just stay home and cling tight to your familyThank God you had somebody to love? And the greatest is love. And the greatest is love.Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?

“Where Were You”
Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you in the yard with your wife and children
Or working on some stage in L.A.?
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Risin’ against that blue sky?
Did you shout out in anger, in fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry?

Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don’t know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below?
Did you burst out in pride for the red, white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin’ what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters?

I’m just a singer of simple songs
I’m not a real political man
I watch CNN but I’m not sure I can tell
you the difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you teaching a class full of innocent children
Or driving down some cold interstate?
Did you feel guilty ‘cause you’re a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone?
Did you call up your mother and tell her you loved her?
Did you dust off that Bible at home?

Did you open your eyes, hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep?
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Or speak to some stranger on the street?
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Or go out and buy you a gun?
Did you turn off that violent old movie you’re watchin’
And turn on “I Love Lucy” reruns?

Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers
Did you stand in line and give your own blood?
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love?

And the greatest is love.
And the greatest is love.

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?

I haven’t forgotten this blog.  I have a few things in the works.

First, as I have mentioned, I was scheduled to take Digital Photo 2 this semester.  Sadly, it was not meant to be this semester.  I arrived at my first class very excited but left disappointed.  The instructor’s goals for the class were not in line with mine.  I’ll spare you the details but I dropped the class the next morning.

Instead, I signed up for Intro to Photoshop.  The first class was Tuesday night and it is going to work well for me (I hope).  I just finished my first round of homework and quizzes.  Whew!  Everything is completed and submitted online which is new to me.  (I got all the way through college the first time without ever using the Internet.  Makes me feel a little old.)  I am excited to learn this program as I already have ideas forming.  More to come on this…

Although I am no taking photo this semester, I want to continue learning more about photography.  I am going to give myself assignments and due dates.  My plan is to post my progress (at least some of it) and then “submit” the assignment on a new blog site.  Now that my PS homework is done, I can work on that a little more.  Stay tuned for details…

Two becomes one
It seems like I don’t have any photos of the boys together.  So today I tried our first session with both the boys.  Yeah, that was a good idea in theory.  They were not getting along so none of the images turned out the way I wanted.  But I like this one of Ryan by himself, even though it’s a cranky face.

Owl 2
I finally remembered to take my new telephoto lens to my parents’ house.  The owl cooperated and held still while Jason took several photos of him (her).

Breakfast of Champions

I am always looking for ways to get the kids (especially Ryan) to eat more.  Today I spread Nutella on their toast instead of peanut butter.  Logan wasn’t interested.  He doesn’t like sweets all that much.  But Ryan liked and smeared it all over his over his hands and face.

Let’s make a boat, mommy!

Logan came home from preschool and wanted to make a boat.  I didn’t really have any idea how we would make a boat from scratch.  But I figured something out.  Here it is- our masterpiece.  Logan had a great time helping me make it.  Ryan loves to use scissors although he’s not that effective.

Out for a walk

With only one dog and Ryan being able to walk, I am more comfortable going for a walk.  Mia had a great time sniffing everything.  The boys took turns holding her leash.  I am not sure what it is about that fire hydrant.  Ryan gets so excited and has to hug it everytime we walk by.

I ♥ Amazon
I wanted a new camera bag that would hold my camera, my new telephoto lens and all the little stuff.  Jason ordered it for late yesterday afternoon.  Just before 2pm today the door bell rang.  My new camera bag was here.  Woo Hoo!

Swimming

I think Tuesday is my favorite day of the week- weekends don’t count.  The boys and I have so much fun hanging out with Missy and Owen.  Today we took the boys to a junior high pool that we haven’t been to yet.  It was a great place to swim, play in the water and still be able to keep track of everyone.  We tried to get a cute group shot but the boys had other ideas.  Apparently we need to learn our lesson and do this when we first get there instead of toward the end.  I didn’t bring my camera but Missy had my back.  She had her point and shoot.  Otherwise, I would have no photos for today.  Thanks Missy!!!

With a tongue like this, Katy needed her photograph taken.  She is here visiting with her “sister” Kimmie Sue and their parents, Tom and Miriam (Jason’s parents).

He’s still got it!

Okay, I understand these are not the best photographs I’ve taken.  (I need a lot more practice with my telephoto lens.)  But let’s just ignore that and look at the content.  This is my father-in-law, Tom, doing a front flip off the diving board at my parents’ house.  After seeing Jason, Jeff (my BIL) and me doing all kinds of flips and dives, Tom showed us that social security eligibility doesn’t take away your athletic ability.  You rock, Tom!

Ryan
I love this shot of Ryan.  I was playing with my new telephoto lens at the time.  Too bad I botched his haircut later that night and had to buzz his hair.  I was so sad.  But it will grow and I won’t let it happen again.  Someone else will have to cut Roo’s beautiful hair.
